some say Leland is a band that is hard to classify. They are influenced greatly by many different styles of music including folk, blues, bluegrass, country, jazz, gypsey, klezmer, dixieland, ambient and baroque. some say Leland is the collective musical wanderings of a few folks that currently reside in Austin, TX. The group was started several years ago in Nacogdoches, TX. They released their first album, "kings, bishops, and pawns," in July 2005, which garnered great reviews across the board. After moving to Austin, the band has resituated itself, and is now working on a second album, which should be released sometime in the early spring of 2007. "their wry, almost reserved approach to storytelling lends an captivatingly personal touch to their music." - Kendal Rogers - The Buzz "The group's debut record, "Kings, Bishops, and Pawns" is one of the finest folk/Americana-type recordings in recent memory." - Chris Edwards - The Pine Log |
